Providers: choose models and defaults
Inspect model capabilities, understand the saved selection, and set defaults for new work.
Open Providers from your project#
Choose Providers in the project toolbar. The page shows Provider capabilities and defaults for your current workspace and project. You can also open Providers from the main navigation to inspect workspace choices.
The access label tells you whether you have Workspace owner controls or a Read-only catalog. Reading a model’s details does not change the provider used by your project.
Compare the right kind of model#
- Select a modality: Text and code, Images, Video, Music, Sound effects or Narration.
- Select a model in the list to inspect its capabilities and limitations.
- Read its status: Available, Qualification required, Blocked by policy or Configuration needs review.
- Check Published pricing and expand Capabilities and limitations when shown.
Saved selection identifies the currently effective choice. Catalog default identifies the catalog’s fallback choice. Neither changes just because you inspect a different row.
Save a workspace default or project override#
Owners can change the controls under Default settings. Choose an available model under Workspace default, then select Save workspace default. This establishes the workspace choice for new work that has no project override.
For a project-specific choice, select a model under Project override and choose Save project override. Select No project override to return that project to the workspace default. Use catalog default removes the explicit workspace choice.
Wait for the saved acknowledgement. These changes apply to new work; existing assets and published artifacts keep their recorded selections. The project override controls require an open project.
Check the saved connection#
In a project, an owner can choose Check selected connection when a qualified saved selection is available. The check uses that saved selection without sending your prompt or reference content.
Read the returned result. A ready connection is different from a rejected key, missing entitlement, unavailable model, provider interruption or rate limit. If the result is inconclusive, it has not confirmed that a generation request will succeed.
Managed credentials reports whether each provider is configured. This screen does not reveal or accept the secret keys themselves. Ask your workspace administrator or CLM Studio support when a managed credential needs attention.
Understand a one-request model choice#
In Builder, Text model for this request lets you use the project or workspace default, or an available model for that request. A Run override is separate from saving a workspace default or project override.
The prompt input estimate is a guide to the selected request’s input. Output usage is separate and provider-reported. To inspect recorded work and configured allowances, open Usage.
