Add useful media alternatives
Describe images and retain the essential meaning of video and audio.
Describe the image’s purpose#
Good alternative text explains what the viewer needs from an image in this slide. Describe the message or relationship, not every visible detail. For a chart, keep the actual values and scientific context available in the presentation’s text and data too.
Do not use an image description to introduce a claim that the image or its cited source does not establish.
Save image alternative text#
- Select the image and open Image alternative text.
- Choose Edit alternative text.
- Write the description, or select Decorative image · no spoken alternative only when the image adds no essential meaning.
- Choose Save alternative text.
- Check the saved result. If confirmation is uncertain, use Check saved alternative text.
Provide a text alternative for media#
For video or audio, choose the appropriate Media alternative target and set Media meaning. When the media carries essential information, provide its Media transcript, then choose Save text alternative.
Read the transcript alongside the actual media. Include the essential spoken and visual meaning that would be lost if the media could not play. Where Studio supplies a verified narration transcript, follow its read-only or linked-source behavior.
Check before review or handoff#
Run the presentation check after saving alternatives. If it identifies essential media without an adequate alternative, repair the selected object and run the check again.
Availability checks help find missing alternatives. Your team should still review clarity, accuracy and the actual reading and playback experience.
